Game Informer has revealed that Gears of War 4 is set almost 25 years after the events of Gears of War 3, and stars JD Fenix (voiced by Spartacus star Liam McIntyre), Marcus Fenix’s son, alongside two other new protagonists, Kait Diaz (voiced by Laura Baily of Tales from the Borderlands and Halo 5: Guardians fame) and Delmont “Del” Walker (voiced by Eugene Byrd, from Battlefield Hardline).
The news comes from Game Informer’s 14-page cover story on the game, which also reveals two-player couch co-op and a new “close-cover melee system”. IGN reports that Gears of War 4 will see “the new trio… surviving ‘one night in the woods’ while encountering tons of terrifying new enemies.”
Meanwhile, Gamespot says that the Game Informer story reveals that “there are only a few hundred thousand people left on Sera in Gears of War 4, and COG forces round everyone up and put them in wall-in structures. Not everyone is happy, and a splinter group, The Outsiders, forms outside of the walls.”
Gears of War 4 was revealed at E3 2015. The game is being developed by a new studio, The Coalition, which has veteran Gears developer Rod Fergusson at the helm. It is scheduled for a holiday 2016 release on Xbox One.
