‘Pokken Tournament’ Added to Pokemon Championship Series

The upcoming Pokemon fighting game hybrid, Pokken Tournament, is now officially part of the Pokemon Championship Series.

From 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27 at specific GameStop stores, fans have the opportunity to be in an early-access competition. The winners of each store will then fight in a tournament at the Nintendo store in New York on March 17. From there, the two winners of the New York tournament will be trained by pro players and duke it out against in the 2016 Pokemon US National Championships from July 1 to July 3 in Columbus, Ohio, with the winner moving on to the world championships in August in San Francisco.

The following are the regional GameStop locations that will host the early-access tournament:

  • 3972 Barranca Parkway, Irvine, CA
  • 8115 S. John Young Parkway, Orlando, FL
  • 6451 W. Diversey Ave., Chicago, IL
  • 242 Bellevue Square, Bellevue, WA
  • 32 E. 14th St. – Union Square, New York, NY
  • 3914 Rivermark Plaza, Santa Clara, CA

Until now, the Pokemon Championship Series had competitors battling playing the main Pokemon games and the trading card game.
