Hi-Rez Studios has announced that Xbox One will be a major sponsor of its SMITE World Championships 2016. Two tournaments will be held during the event: The SMITE PC world Championship will feature teams from North America, Europe, Brazil, Latin America, China and, for the first time, Oceania, all competing for a share in $1 million. Meanwhile, the SMITE Xbox One Invitational will feature four teams competing for a share of $150,000.
To find the Oceanic team to participate in the SMITE World Championship, the Oceania Regional Championships will be held at PAX Australia in Melbourne, Victoria, October 30 to November 1. The tournament will have a prize pool of over $50,000.
The top teams from the Oceanic Pro League, which will be streamed (on www.twitch.tv/TeamDownTV2) every Saturday and Sunday from 6pm starting July 25, will earn a spot in the Regional Championships, while other hopefuls can gain qualification through Open Ladder and Challengers Cup events held by CyberGamer.
The SMITE World Championships will be held at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Ga, from January 7 to January 10, 2016.
SMITE is a third person MOBA for PC and Xbox One. The game was released on PC in 2014, and is currently in Open Beta on Xbox One.
