‘Destiny’ Beta and Collector’s Edition Unveiled

Bungie, creators behind the highly-anticipated Destiny, has revealed release dates for all the game’s betas as well as two collector’s editions and a special digital edition.

First revealed on IGNDestiny‘s beta will release for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 on Thursday, July 17. The beta itself will place player’s at the start of the game’s story and contain “a handful of Story missions, a Strike mission, and a selection of PvP Crucible maps,” IGN said.

It should noted, however, that the beta will go offline for maintenance from July 21 to July 23.

Beginning July 23, the Xbox One and Xbox 360 betas will become available as well. All betas will end on Sunday, July 27.

In addition to the beta release dates, IGN also unveiled the collector’s editions for Destiny.

At $99.99, the Destiny Limited Edition will contain the following contents:

  • The Destiny Expansion Pass, a $35 value by itself that comes with the first two expansions
  • The Guardian Folio
  • Steelbook case for the game’s disc
  • Arms and Armaments book
  • “Antique” star chart
  • Four Postcards
  • Skins for Ghost, ship and player emblem digital content


For $149.99, the Ghost Edition comes packed with all of the contents of the Limited Edition, but also includes a life-sized replica of Ghost, the robot companion players receive in the game. The Ghost not only lights up, but it also has voice samples from Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, who provides his voice for Ghost.

Lastly, the Digital Guardian Edition contains “early access to Vanguard armory and player emblem pre-order bonuses, a reservation for upcoming Destiny expansions ‘The Dark Below’ and ‘House of Wolves’ (each of which includes new Story missions, cooperative and competitive multiplayer arenas, and a ‘wealth’ of new weapons, armor, and gear), and the aforementioned Collector’s Edition Digital Content,” IGN said.
