We may have mislead you with the original story. Xbox One Games with Gold will require an Xbox Live Gold membership to play downloaded games, but the Xbox 360 program remains as it was – the games are yours to keep and play regardless of an Xbox Live Gold membership or not.

Microsoft has announces a pretty significant change for Xbox Live’s Games for Gold program today in that you will not be able to keep the free games once your subscription runs out.
This move has made the Games for Gold program pretty much identical to PlayStation’s PlayStation Plus which also takes away free games once your subscription runs out. What Microsoft hasn’t elaborated on is if your games will be accessible if you renew your subscription which Sony allows you to do with PS Plus.
Is this necessarily a bad thing? Well that’s dependent on whether Microsoft can offer a consistent and appealing free games service which PlayStation Plus manages to deliver on quite frequently.
It’s also unclear if this is applying to both Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
Earlier today, Microsoft revealed the massive announcement that Xbox One will release without Kinect in June. You can read all about that right here.
