‘Titanfall’ Multiplayer Limited to Six Versus Six

It has been confirmed by Vince Zampella that Titanfall will adhere to a maximum of six players of each side when it comes to multiplayer. Initially, people believed that this was strictly for the Xbox 360, but it applies to the PC and Xbox One as well. This news comes as a bit of a shock to many gamers as most titles within the FPS genre will host much larger quantities of players, however Zampella stated that this limit was put into place because it was found to be the optimum number for balance.

It has also been clarified since this tweet that the six person per side limit is only in regards to human players. The AI teammates are not included in this number, meaning that the number of characters on each team will actually be greater than six.

There are obviously a large number of fans who were disappointed to learn of this limit, but Zampella and the team at Respawn seem very confident in what they are producing, informing various people through Twitter that if they feel that strongly about having more human players in a match, there are other shooters available which will serve them better, but that they should give the game a chance before they judge it.

Does the announcement of a 6v6 multiplayer maximum deter you from picking up the title? Do you have faith that the limit was in fact placed there for the benefit of the gameplay or do you believe it was done for an arbitrary reason? Titanfall is scheduled to release on March 11, 2014 in North America as well as March 13, 2014 in Europe and Australia. The game will be available on Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.

  1. I believe the games were only 6v6 when I played at the EB Expo. Also, I am pretty sure everyone else who has played it has been playing 6v6 as well. Therefore, the high praise the game is getting is with 6v6 matches; there should not be a problem with the 12 player limit.

    • That’s exactly it. Every demo people have played has been limited to 6v6 because that’s what the game itself is limited to. Whether or not people actually realized it because of the AI is up for debate, but people should realize that limiting a match to 12 humans isn’t necessarily a bad move. If they say that it’s being done in the name of balance and making the game as enjoyable as possible, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt until I get to play it.

      • I completely agree. Apart from games like Battlefield, most multiplayer shooters this generation featured roughly 6v6 matches and they played fine. Usually the number of players is based on the size of the maps, there’s no point having more players if the maps are not big enough – that would not be a fun experience.
