Will EverQuest Next be Coming to PlayStation 4?

As it stands, the MMO EverQuest Next has only been confirmed for PC, but it may see itself shift over onto PlayStation 4 according to Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley.

“We haven’t announced, technically, that we’re putting it on PlayStation 4,” Smedley told GamerHub TV via CVG, “but it’s fair to say that we’re a Sony company so, you know, I say that with a smile on my face. I can’t wait to see it on the PS4.”

Smedley further detailed the potential of free-to-play on PlayStation 4, “Free-to-play gaming is going to take a large role on the PlayStation 4. In fact, you’re going to see a number of free-to-play games at launch, and we think it’s going to be the biggest opportunity in free-to-play gaming right now.”

Producer David Georgeson detailed in August that SOE is primarily focused on the PC version of EverQuest Next, without fully denying a future in next-gen.

“We’re very serious about this being a PC-orientated launch. Now, you’re dumb not to explore other options with a business of this type, but we’re very serious about developing for the PC,” Georgeson said in August.

If EverQuest Next does convert over to the PlayStation 4, it will join fellow MMO’s from SOE – DC Universe Online which is currently available, and PlanetSide 2 which will be released next year.

For those who want to get their hands on the world-building tool for EverQuest Next, the alpha period for EverQuest Landmark begins in February, for those who purchase the recently announced Founders Packs. There is no release date for EverQuest Next at the moment.
