Killzone Shadow Fall Is A 50GB Download

PlayStation 4 launch title Killzone Shadow Fall will be a whopping 50GB download Sony has revealed.

Killzone - Shadow Fall #6

The news comes about as part of a Eurogamer interview with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s Fergal Gara. According to Gara, a solution to the massive download file Killzone will take is Sony’s technology which allows you to play the game as it downloads meaning you won’t have to wait a while.

“The Play as you Download functionality, for example, means you don’t need the whole file before you go,”Gara explained. “This is a little bit counterbalanced by the fact the files themselves are getting bloody big. Killzone: Shadow Fall is an uber file – I think it’s cracking on for 50GB. It looks it, too, when you see it.”

Gara went onto say how digital versions of the game are the hardest to download as opposed to the hardcopies. They’re still “a relatively tedious process,” Gara explained. Sony has “done a lot of work on pre-delivering files. It’s not perfect. It’s not seamless. The file version of the game versus the disc version of the game maybe needs to go through additional QA and additional testing.”

The upside to this is Killzone Shadow Fall can be downloaded in two parts, the single-player and multiplayer are both separate. This should in theory mean less download time.

Killzone Shadow Fall is a PS4 launch game and releases on November 15th for North America and November 29th for Europe.

  1. Hopefully big download sizes will not be a trend next-gen. Sure, you can play while it’s downloading, but people could become capped very quickly.
