Bethesda Speaks About Their Lack of Wii U, 3DS & Vita Support

Bethesda has stated they are already planning support for Xbox One and PlayStation 4,  but what about the Wii U, Vita and 3DS?

IGN recently spoke to Bethesda VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines, about the lack of support for these systems and if Bethesda are looking to utilize them in the future.

“We don’t have anything announced for Wii U,” Hines stated. “We don’t have anything announced for the handhelds. Are there opportunities that could come up there that could make sense and be the kinds of things we would want to do? Absolutely. But what we have going on right now doesn’t fit with that.”

Bethesda wants to support as many consoles and get their game to as many players as possible, but they refuse to shoe-horn their games on systems that cannot support the games vision.

“For a game like Wolfenstein, as it’s designed, we want it out on as many platforms as we can support that will support the game as it’s envisioned, where we don’t have to cut features or dial stuff back or end up delivering a game where Wolf on this platform is nothing like it is on the PS4,” he explained.

Though Bethesda has no plans for these systems currently, Hines clarified that this doesn’t mean they won’t support these systems down the road.

“Other platforms that we’re not doing anything for, we’ll wait and see. I would never say never.” Hines continued. “We’re not just going to bang a round peg into a square hole. That’s not how we work. It doesn’t make sense for us.”

Are you happy Bethesda isn’t looking to provide low quality support to these systems? Or would you prefer Bethesda titles appear on these systems regardless?

  1. it is a shame that they can’t atempt to fallout 3 or new vegas onto the ps vita as from what ive been hearing the vita could run these games

    • It definitely could, maybe not as expansive of a world. But they could tell smaller stories from the universe, is more segmented parts of the world perhaps, who knows.
