Here’s what Mirror’s Edge (2) Might be About

Mirror's Edge

First and foremost, the following information hasn’t been confirmed as the official story, characters, or events, which are to transpire in the upcoming open-world action/adventure Mirror’s Edge. These are just a few of the potential events based on the original Mirror’s Edge.

Mirror’s Edge (2) has finally been shown last week at EA’s conference. No details were given, not even a release date, only that it’s going to present Faith’s origins. Here’s what can happen:

This prequel’s main story might focus on the protests against the totalitarian regime. There is also a comic detailing a few of Faith’s adventures while trying to learn more about her mother’s mysterious job, but DICE told us that it wants to do its own version of Faith’s origins, so it might totally get ignored. If not, then the comic actually presents an interesting conspiracy tale involving Faith’s mother, and the fact that she was more important to the city than everyone thought.

This being an origins story, it’s quite possible that, in the beginning, Faith might probably be unknown to the ways of the parkour. In the first game, we learn that after her mother died, she left her sister and father, and while breaking into Merc’s (or Mercury) hideout, she got caught, only to be offered a place among the runners, with Merc as a personal trainer.

Somewhere along the way, she also meets Celeste, which becomes a close friend, just like Merc. Her sister grows up to be a policeman, so interaction between the two could possibly provide another story, just like in the first game.

Faith might be in some kind of a relationship with Jacknife (a runner, who, at one point, gave up on his job for unknown reasons). At one point during the first game, Merc says that Faith cannot avoid him forever, suggesting a possible past love interest. When meeting Jacknife a second time, he tells Faith to stop trusting people so much, to which she replies that she learned that a long time ago (presumably she had a falling out with him). Before she departs, Jacknife also tells Faith to be careful, and to not get killed, suggesting that he still cares for her, even though his typical “macho” personality won’t show it.

Finally, the tattoos might also represent a pivotal point in Faith’s career as a runner. Maybe the more experience she gets, the more tattoos she imprints? We know that she gets her first tattoo (the one near her eye) after her first run, but what about the ones on her arms? What events would be so important for other imprints?

We’ll have to learn that, and many more other things as time passes, because Mirror’s Edge (2) will only be available… “when it’s ready.” I’m personally betting on a 2014 release date, but we’ll see.
