Microsoft has confirmed to Digital Trends that their next-generation console will in-fact, be region-locked.
“Similar to the movie and music industry, games must meet country-specific regulatory guidelines before they are cleared for sale,” a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to Digital Trends. “We will continue to work with our partners to follow these guidelines with Xbox One.”
Microsoft also region-locked the original Xbox and Xbox 360, though it was the publishers decision whether or not a title was region-locked on Xbox 360.
Sony has not confirmed if the PlayStation 4 will be region-locked, however the PlayStation 3 is region-free.
What are your thoughts on Xbox One’s confirmed region-lock? Do you think Sony will follow suit?
