EA Will Be Publishing Star Wars Games

EA has signed a deal with Disney to publish Star Wars games in the future.

A new “multi-year exclusive licensing agreement to develop and publish globally new games based on Star Wars characters and storylines” was established by the two companies. According to EA, the new Star Wars games will be “for a core gaming audience, spanning all interactive platforms and the most popular game genres, while Disney will retain certain rights to develop new titles within the mobile, social, tablet and online game categories.”

Three EA owned studios are already underway on developing Star Wars games according to EA’s Frank Gibeau. The studios in question just happen to be DICE, Visceral and BioWare, the developers of Battlefield, Dead Space and Mass Effect. BioWare was also behind the development of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

“Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe,” said Gibeau. “Three of our top studios will fulfil that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise. The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay.”

Beyond the announcement of the deal, no other terms nor financial arrangements were released.

  1. ER-MA-GERD! Please EA and Bioware. Please give us Knights of the Old Republic 3. That game is long overdue. Yes, the Old Republic is out, but it’s just not the same thing, at least from what I’ve seen of it. I still haven’t gotten around to playing it yet.

    • Kinda unexpected, but I’m happy about it nonetheless. A Battlefront 3 on Frostbite 3 is almost guaranteed; an RPG themed can always come from Bioware, and seeing as The Force Unleashed was the best selling Star Wars also means that a reboot, or even a sequel, is also pretty possible. This is a chance for EA to get up from all that past mud. Don’t. Fuck. It. Up!
