Can Trophies be on their way to Older Playstation Games?

Well, if this was one of your wishes for 2013, then Sony has come to answer it. A recent patent application has surfaced showing that trophies can be brought to the old PS3 games (which did not include trophies) and even PlayStation 2 and Play station Classics.

Sony’s say on the matter:

“A method and apparatus for adding trophy support [to] games that do not have trophies without modifying the original game. The method and apparatus are used to detect particular disk access, use the detected disk access as potential trophy triggers in games, and recognize the triggers while a game is played. Trophies are awarded based on the triggers, and the awarded trophies are stored.”

This is fantastic news for any PlayStation gamer, be it they still have their old games, or are looking to play some of the “PS3 classics”.  Trophies/Achievements have become a new way to play video games and by adding support patches to all previous games, will only entice gamers to buy more PlayStation games.

  1. I hope this is true. I would love to have trophies in older games. It gives the perfect excuse to play some old friends again.
