Xbox 720 Facebook Ads Are Scams Say Microsoft

Adverts being shared over Facebook asking for testers for the next-gen Xbox have confirmed to be fake according to Microsoft.

Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb sent out a Tweet yesterday confirming that the ads asking for testers to try out the the companies unannounced console are fake and that they are scams.

“Confirmed: All sign-up pages for testing the ‘next Xbox’ are fake,” Xbox Live director of programming Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb Tweeteed. “Do not give them your information–it’s a scam.”

There have been various ads all over Facebook and another site called “” has been put up that simply says that players need only to register to join “an Elite class of gamers.”

The website has a description that reads “Now is your chance to get the new XBOX gaming console that everyone has been talking about. The XBOX 720! Microsoft has decided to allow this ground breaking system into a beta program to get the input from all the hardcore gamers out there. This time your opinion really does matter.”

As well as having a poorly designed webpage, the site’s description also features a pretty obvious grammatical error. The Facebook page and the site first popped up a week ago and have seen a wide albeit brief level of attention though it’s quite obviously a scam.

The link to the pages was not included deliberately. It goes without saying but it would be ill-advised to give them your information.

The legitimate next-gen Xbox is thought to be unveiled this April after a domain name was registered by Microsoft. Sony have already announced the PlayStation 4 so all eyes are on Microsoft for now.

  1. I wonder how many people were fooled over this, very similar to the PlayStation 4 Fan Page that popped up the other week.
