Dean Dodrill has confirmed that a sequel to the extremely gorgeous action-platformer Dust: An Elysian Tail, will be in the works at some point.
Dust: An Elysian Tail was one of the best games to come out of 2012, with the game scoring a 9 on Analog Addiction. We have reached out to the solo creator Dean Dodrill on Twitter, he replied with some very interesting news regarding his future; and the future of the series.
This not only confirms that a new game in the Dust series will appear, but we will also be seeing another project from Dodrill. We have further inquired, asking when these projects could be seeing the light of day.
What could this brand new project be? Will the sequel feature Dust and Fidget? Or will it be a brand new take on this gorgeous universe? We will update you if we hear anymore, but until then keep it here on Analog Addiction for all things Dust.
Jamie Briggs manages Analog Addiction and you can like them on Facebook, follow his daily life on Twitter @JamieAA and his videos on YouTube.

I’d love to see a sequel, but it’s been about 6 years since the game. But I still have high hopes. I guess we’ll have to wait even longer. High hopes everyone. #TeamDust

I’ve got to say, I rarely play games of this nature, but this game did everything to a tee. The story is great, and I think that there are morals to be learned. The biggest one being, innocense without power is ineffective, but power without innocence is morally corrupt.

Dust is one of the best games I have ever played and one of the 2 games to make me cry because of the story

I played this game originally when it came out on the XBox Arcade and I loved it so much so I paid full price for it on Steam. I don’t even care, it was $17 well spent. No matter how many times I play through it though, I always tear up at the end. I am really looking forward to the sequel. I don’t think I would have even heard of it if not for my boyfriend knowing the voice actor for Haley.

Near the end, you can find a wedding ring, does that mean anything for the sequel?

Could do, Dodrill has been very quiet since he made this statement regarding Dust.

Thank you for finding out about a possible dust 2. First one was easily one of the best games I’ve ever played. I’d have no problem paying $40+ for a sequel. Fingers crossed!

No problems mate 🙂

The wedding ring is a stat item only. But there IS something in the future for Fidget, and spoiler alert; Dust becomes more the brother that Ginger lost rather than a lover. Makes sense, considering Dust IS a fusion of Jin and Cassius’ souls, and Jin was her brother.

Man, I really loved this game. One of the most fun games I’ve played in a few years. I was already surprised since it was an indie title, but when I found out pretty much the whole game was done by one person I was definitely impressed… I got the game for free with PS+, and it’s a good thing I did because otherwise I would have probably never even looked at the game. My only complaint was that the game felt too short and didn’t have a New Game + option.

Actually one more thing I wanted to add was that the boss fights didn’t feel enough like “boss” fights. It would be cool if the sequel has boss fights that are more impressive. That’s seriously it. This game was amazing.

Did try playing it in hardcore mode. The bosses are nearly impossible to kill unless your an expert at dodging and parying

I did, almost have the platinum trophy on the PS4 release.

I know this is a very, very late reply… but, I just wanted to say that when I made that reply I already had the Platinum Trophy. My memory of the game isn’t as fresh as it was then, so I can’t really comment anything further. However, I don’t think I meant that the bosses needed to be harder necessarily, just more “impressive”.

Spent the time to get 117% on my first playthrough. The whole ending sequence floored me. The VA for Dust did a great job with expressing the anger during the final confrontation. I almost cried at the end, too.

Yes. I did the same thing got the 117% which I thought was strange at first when I got to 100% before mid last chapter… And being a platformer lover I said screw it and went hardcore mode right off the bat, and I have to disagree about most others opinion on the difficulty level- I made sure to get all treasure and loot right away, and do 10 minutes of farming here and there, and I was having no troubles at all except some of the spike mazes (one hit dead mostly, on hardcore)… In all I have to say this story line expressed beautiful emotions in all aspects from happy to sad, and angry to creeped tfo. I loved it and can’t wait for a number 2

Not that I’ve heard, Dean Dodrill does all his work solo (if he continues doing so in the sequel) so it may take longer.
With the success of Dust being included on Games With Gold, I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a sequel before a new project. Plus he is bringing Dust to PS4 soon, I think we should expect more announcements next year.

I’d say we may hear about his new project at PlayStation Experience. A weird tweet was posted by Dean a week or so ago regarding the event, it seemed quite tongue in cheek.
I could be wrong, but definitely hear about his new project in 2015.

I have high hopes for the sequel to come. The graphics were simply gorgeous and I enjoyed the gameplay style! It was very much a challenge I appreciated in a videogame. Whichever direction he decides to take the next one, I will GLADLY buy it!

Considering there are. 5 blades of elysium, I’m guessing there’s a good chance of a new protaganist , new sword, and possibly a new helper, seeing as each of the blades has a guardian.

that or it could go in the direction of dust getting another sword and being able to switch weapons

And each sword would have a current move set, including dust storm attacks. .. in a perfect world at last.

I loved the game but if they could make it super long like 30 hrs or make addons to the game also I loved how big the map is but I want them to make it bigger than the first one and there should be seperate completion for main quest and side over please let it happen for current gen and next
