PlayStation 4 Won’t Support DualShock 3

In the wake of the PlayStation 4 announcement and with the unveiling of a brand new DualShock 4, Sony confirmed that the PlayStation 4 will not support DualShock 3.

DualShock 4 2

It doesn’t come as a huge surprise, but the news was announced in a discussion with Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Worldwide Studios when the topic was brought up. “No, [PlayStation 4] doesn’t support DualShock 3, but does support Move”.

The difference between DualShock 3 and 4 is huge for obvious reasons, namely that the DualShock 4 is intensely way more powerful than it’s predecessor  That and it packs way more features into the DualShock which aside from going wireless, has seldom changed since the early days of PlayStation. With PS3 games being non-backwards compatible, having DualShock 3 supported by PS4 would ultimately be a waste of resources.

Perhaps the most surprising news out of all of this is that they’re sticking with PlayStation Move for now.
