The War Z Fiasco

The War Z is an open shooter zombie survival horror FPS developed by Hammerpoint Interactive. The game is all about surviving in an open world, full of zombies, while looking for supplies, ammo, and most importantly, taking good care with who you ally yourself, because you might just get killed by the other players for that precious bottle of water. Sounds interesting right? If only the execution wasn’t so sloppy…

The game was released on December 17 on Steam. It was even the best selling game for that respective day.

So what’s the problem?

Fans quickly noticed that A LOT of promised features on the Steam page were in fact… missing. GameSpy took Hammerpoint Interactive an interview, and received some… interesting (to say at least) answers.

Now, it seems that The War Z has been taken down from Steam. The game is still playable, but for now, you cannot buy it. Valve provided the following statement:

From time to time a mistake can be made and one was made by prematurely issuing a copy of War Z for sale via Steam. We apologize for this and have temporary removed the sale offering of the title until we have time to work with the developer and have confidence in a new build. Those who purchased the game and wish to continue playing it via Steam may do so. Those who purchased the title via Steam and are unhappy with what they received may seek a refund by creating a ticket at our support site here

So there you have it. If you are not happy with your purchase, Valve will offer you your money back.

Our take on this news: We have heard of unfinished games before, but this is just ridiculous. Sure there could be bugs, technical issues and so on, but whole features missing? Come on!

Vlad Pintea was never interested in the game to begin with, but he’s really curious how can someone dare to release a game that doesn’t even have the features promised. Can’t do them? No problem, but don’t go on promising people something if you can’t live up to it. You can contact him via e-mail at or, on Skype, My IGN, Steam (all at the same name: vlad94pintea) or Facebook (Vlad Pintea). Have a good day and remember! Stay calm and keep on gaming!
