The Last Of Us Multiplayer Will “Stand On Its Own”

Naughty Dog has defended their decision to implement a multiplayer offering for their upcoming game, The Last Of Us.

After the Spike TV Video Game Awards last week, Naughty Dog confirmed that The Last Of Us will be receiving a multiplayer component alongside the games story. The fan response was one of outrage and frustration. Naughty Dog were quick to defend themselves.

“We don’t approach [multiplayer] in any of our games as tacked on,” said Naughty Dog’s Arne Meyer, the developers PR representative. “And we also always have separate teams working on the different components so that we can maintain full focus on making [singleplayer and multiplayer] up to our standards.”

The multiplayer will also “stand on its own” said Meyer. The PR representative also assured fans that if multiplayer for The Last Of Us felt tacked on, Naughty Dog wouldn’t have put it in the game to begin with.

Naughty Dog has been working on this game for a while with a separate team handling the studios last release, Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception. Like The Last Of Us, Uncharted also featured multiplayer offerings for both Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3. Both offerings were well received. The team behind The Last Of Us were the developers behind Uncharted 2, the first Uncharted game to offer a multiplayer option.

  1. After playing the multiplayer for almost 3 hours I would say that it definitely stands on its own.

Veteran gamers of Uncharted would argue that it has similarities with Uncharted multiplayer but having the elements of the single pllayer, The Last of Us multiplayer has a lot of things to offer and I mean a lot.
Yes, it’s a slow paced game yet would get intense once two teams cross path. It’s fun, it’s challenging, it’s brilliant and for some tips, check this one:
