Inside Assassin’s Creed III: Episode 1

Ubisoft has released Episode 1 of a new video series detailing the making of Assassin’s Creed III. Episode 1 contains many developers and revolutionary experts speaking about the historical accuracy that the game possesses, The Revolution was a brutal war and they have tried the best to bring that out within the game. Recording over 2 and a half hours of cinematic cut-scenes and containing over 30 hours of gameplay, Assassin’s Creed III looks to be the greatest undertaking yet for the series.

“Connor is more about justice, than revenge.” one developer stated, “He sees himself as a defender of the people” said Creative Director Alex Hutchinson. Noah Watts, the voice of Connor has also recorded many lines in the characters native tongue, that add that sense of realism to the character. They also talk about the AnvilNext game engine, after taking 3 years to improve the system they have been able to incoporate seasonal changes in weather and have up to 2,500 NPC’s on screen at the one time.

The next episode will feature an in-depth discussion on weapons, combat and tactics and how they have been incorporated into The Revolution time period.

Assassin’s Creed III is released October 30th in North America and 31st everywhere else, on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

  1. I just think the Desmond storyline distracts from the historical aspects of the game. I wish they had dropped that angle and focus on telling a self-contained story solely from the perspective of the protagonist in the time period the game is set in.


    • That I agree with, the Animus angle doesn’t even need to be in play, could easily be a separate thing. They have made his storyline boring to many people now anyways


      • I think they should keep the open world gameplay in the historical settings rather than in the modern day unless it were somewhere remote. Wouldn’t mind some uncharted like action in the modern day. That’d be sweet.


        • If they kept the modern day game to a certain area of the world it would be cool, as I said climbing massive building probably wouldn’t be fun. Then you have to figure out how the assassin’s would deal with massive firearms…Their hidden blade couldn’t deal with an RPG πŸ˜›


    • If they gave us gameplay of Desmond before he was captured by Abstergo, i think that would be cool but the modern day setting shouldn’t be taken away completely. If they made a game about subject 16 i think that would make the modern day setting more interesting.


      • I would love AC in modern times, just trying to get my head around how they would do it…It seems cool in premise, but climbing sky scrapers in America might not be too fun.


  2. Caught this video over on IGN and I’m mighty impressed with what they’re doing. Unlike previous entries in the series, this game feels like the true spiritual sequel to Assassin’s Creed 2, though it’s also a departure from anything that came before. The only downside is that they’re promising more Desmond and Animus stuff, which I honestly don’t care about.


    • I am probably one of the few people who like Desmond, so I am fine with that personally. I think this game is a big contender for GOTY, if they can pull it off, this game will be huge.
