EA Finally Announces Battlefield 4

After accidentally blowing the cover on their Battlefield 4 Beta a few days ago, showing a brief advertisement on EA’s digital distribution site Origin regarding special access to the Battlefield 4 Beta, with pre-orders of Medal of Honor: Warfighter’s Limited Edition. EA has now officially announced the existence of Battlefield 4.

Too soon for a sequel?

The advertisement in question was quickly pulled and the typical “We do not comment on rumours of speculation” was given to anyone asking about the advertisement. Now however EA has changed their tune, knowing full well the cat was out of the bag, the official announcement was made earlier today. As pre-orders will receive exclusive Beta access.

President of EA Labels Frank Gibeau had this to say, regarding the odd paring of Medal of Honor and Battlefield. “Though Battlefield and Medal of Honor Warfighter each offer players a completely unique experience, they are united by their underlying technology base – Frostbite. These are two of the hottest shooters, coming together to deliver a one-two punch of action, intensity and shooter entertainment,”

Interestingly enough the Beta will take place in autumn 2013, which is when new consoles are rumours to be released, such as a possible PS4 and Xbox Infinity. Speculation has already started to grow as many believe this Beta may take place on next generation hardware, since no consoles have been announced for Battlefield 4 appearances.

Could this possibly be the first Beta on next generation hardware? Also if it is, shouldn’t customers be notified of this before purchase? Sure the Beta will most likely still run on current generation consoles, but some sort of details before purchase would be beneficial Although this is all speculation, as stated earlier.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter will release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on October 23 2012 in North America and in the UK on October 26 2012.

  1. I got in on the BF3 beta and loved it but i neevr really got aroudn to buying it and wound up missing it for the most part :/ hopefully i wil get my hands on this one! I love the franchise, I feel it will only get better and better instead of staying the same like COD haha I don’t think it’s too soon for a sequal, it’s still a long way off, it’s just a beta for the time being.

    • My copy of BF3 has not been touched since purchase, my bad! Yeah you do have a point, but with all the hype on the DLC expansions for BF3, who will bother with them with BF4 in the works. I think it may have been a silly move and may effect sales, should have announced once the expansions were complete and milk all the sales possible.

      • We’ll probably have to wait another 2 years for the full BF4 game. I like multiplayer but BF3 is the only MP i will go to first rather than SP. Of course when you start playing BF3 MP, it is addictive although the controls for the planes are weird. Right analog stick controls the play rather than the left stick. I’ve never seen that in another game.

        • I have tried the multiplayer at my friends, the planes are very off. I can see it coming out end of 2013, remember the Beta ended almost a week or 2 before release last year.

      • I remember although i don’t think they would lose too much money if they released BF4 as that rent a server is making a load of ca$h and BF4 will see rent a server again.
